about dayspring counseling and wellness

Welcome to our office where everyone is invited, but commitment to doing the work and experiencing growth is key. We take a straightforward approach, focusing on faith-based wellness for mind, body, and spirit. If you're ready to be heard and work on your goals—both short-term and long-term—this is the place for you.

A safe and inviting place to unpack and take charge

Our therapists often utilize several therapeutic techniques or approaches. However, one of the most important tools is the relationship we develop with you. Research has shown that this relationship is often one of the most important factors in healing. This means we will want, need, and encourage your complete participation, honesty, and openness. Ready to do some work (with us in your corner, of course)?

Meet Dr. Gary "Skip" Ritter

Skip began his counseling career working with substance abuse clients in 1996. He then ventured into working with incarcerated youths in 2008. His foray into clinical counseling occurred when Skip became a Clinical Substance Abuse Counselor in 2009 where he continued to work with youths in a community outpatient clinic. Skip’s focus changed to working with adult offenders and with adult client’s with higher acuity and more severe mental health and substance abuse needs. Today, Skip helps people with a myriad of mental health and substance abuse challenges, but his primary focus is upon trauma, especially complex trauma. Skip holds multiple certifications for specialized therapies including Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and holds a certification as a Clinically Certified Trauma Provider (CCTP II) Level 2. Skip’s preferred modality of treatment is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). Skip and his family moved to New Mexico in 2014.

"I came to Skip with a porn addiction and a marriage that was falling apart. My wife was finished with me. I was spiraling in addiction, self hate, and hopelessness. I couldn't see a way out, much less a way forward. I started seeing Skip as an attempt to make things “right” again.

From the first session, Skip took me in and started looking into my past and into who I am as a man. He lead me down pathways that would improve me as a man, a father, a husband, as a person. He constantly encouraged me to work on my past brokenness and to not allow it to influence my future. He gave me books to read and the tools to use to fight the battles I would need to endure on the road to recovery. He did not let me dwell on the past failings, but instead, what I was doing now.

My sessions with Skip have put me in a relationship with Jesus Christ, my savior. My faith has never been stronger, and with this faith I have been able to pull myself further from my past life of addiction.

Because of the work Skip had me do and held me to, I have a healthier marriage than I have ever had, I am a more loving and understanding father, and I am a confident man. My life has improved immensely, and I look to hardships as something to work on, not as something that needs to be “white knuckled” through.

Skip has changed my life. Those who know me best have seen a huge change in my attitude and demeanor, even those who don't know I am undergoing therapy. Skip has been a God send not only to me, but to my family as well."

Because of the work Skip had me do and held me to, I have a healthier marriage than I have ever had, I am a more loving and understanding father, and I am a confident man.
